Great if brief overview of the field.

Suitable for upper level undergraduate audiences and as an introductory text for graduate students. Assumes some familiarity with history as a discipline if you are reading it on your own, but so far (have not finished it yet) it does a really good job of situating gender history both in terms of changing feminist theory and in terms of the new directions in history. The focus is the US, England, and France, which works well for this sort of introductory overview. All in all, I am quite favorably impressed, except for the inexplicable and unfortunate absence of any mention of the work of Gerda Lerner.
